BOSTON STARTUP ATTORNEY
A new breed of law firm for a new category of clients...I represent entrepreneurs in the Boston area in a client focused practice. Forget what you think you know about lawyers and law firms because I do things a little differently. This practice is centered on fulfilling the needs of the entrepreneur, small business owner, and startup community in the 21st century. I'm a digital age lawyer for your digital age company.
Whether you are launching your first business, seeking advice for current issues or future planning, or find yourself ready to expand and need to know the legal path you should take, I am here to answer your questions and give you the help you want. I'll do my part to make your goals and dreams come true.

What I'm About
Services you want. None that you don't.
The main focus of my practice is to offer you services that you want, and not to upsell you on nonsense filings or documents just to pad my bill. When you are happy and your business succeeds, then I succeed with you. For this reason, I offer packages that typical companies might need, as well as a la carte legal services.
If you want to start from nothing and be fully established, we can do that. If you just need an NDA drafted, I'm there for it. If you just want to negotiate a noncompete agreement to hire an otherwise unhireable employee, let's do it!
I use services that all offer secure SSL encryption and secure payment options (LawPay and Practice Panther).

Legal Services for Startups
Start it up right...
There might be nothing more frustrating than to learn about a mistake when it's too late to fix it. Don't let that happen to you. Start your business the right way. Create the type of entity you need for what you're going to be doing. Get your contracts in order. With me at the legal helm for your company, I will make sure that all of these things are done right the first time. You can thank me later for not waking up at 2 a.m. with the sweats worrying about a contract you downloaded from the internet to use with a purchase order.
And speaking of contracts...
Documents you need, made just for you
There are plenty of pre-made, one size fits all, "zooming" companies out there that will sell you something you think will work. Hey, sometimes they do work. But that's usually because nothing goes wrong for you to see how they don't really protect you. When you're starting off or expanding, the worst thing you can do is put your precious baby of a business in the hands of some computer generated mountain of nonsense, garbled legal mumbo jumbo.
Documents and contracts in business are the core of operations. That's how deals are made, transactions are completed, and work gets done. Let me use my years of experience to write your bylaws, or your non-disclosure agreement, or your employment contracts. It will make you happy and it will make the people you work with happy as well. Most importantly, it will keep your business as safe as possible!
Let's Meet
Want to Work Together?
Great, let's meet! I can meet with you on a shorter, "Consultation" basis or a more comprehensive "Legal Coaching" basis depending on your needs. Although I don't formally represent you until we both agree that it's the right way to go and we sign a Legal Services Agreement, our meeting is covered by the terms of my Client Services Agreement, and by meeting with me you agree to those terms.
Consultation
Advice
A Consultation is like what you'd expect of a Consultation with a lawyer... except much more casual and personable.
What: A Consultation with me is ideal when you somewhat know what you want, or just need some quick answers and legal advice. This is also a great chance for us to learn about each other and see if we can work well together.
Where: We can meet anywhere. I often meet with people in coffee shops during the afternoons and evenings. I'm also happy to go to your office. Or, if you prefer, we can meet in my office space if we need more privacy.
How long: About 30 minutes, but I'm not going to set a timer when we start talking
Cost: There is no fee for a Consultation.
Ready to schedule a Meet and Consult? Great! I look forward to speaking with you.
Sometimes things are a little more serious and you need some good advice about an impending problem or legal threat. A half hour meeting won't get the answers you need, but you don't want to pay a lawyer on an open-ended hourly basis to get answers. How about Legal Advice instead?
What: With Legal Advice, you get a full hour of my time to give you advice and recommendations on your legal situation. I'll need to get some important information from you in advance to make sure your situation is one where I can help and so I can also do some limited research before meeting so that we can get the most out of the time we have in person.
Where: In this type of situation, it's best to meet somewhere more private than a coffee shop. Your office or mine, perhaps. If neither option works, then we just have to find a location that offers privacy and no interruptions.
How long: A full hour, but I'm not going to set a timer when we start talking
Cost: I charge $175 for Legal Advice, though if you end up hiring me for a project with a fee of $350 or more, I will credit the Legal Advice fee toward the project fee.
Ready to schedule a Legal Advice session? Great! I look forward to speaking with you.
Flat Fee Pricing
Legal costs don't have to be awful and dreaded when the lawyer you're working with is reasonable. Fortunately for you, I'm that guy!
One Size Does Not Fit All...
I am not an advocate of one size fits all, hourly billing legal pricing. You may not be in a position to pay huge fees. More importantly, the work you require may not even warrant a big expense. What if you just want some advice or guidance on a legal problem you want to handle yourself as much as possible?
I'll work with you and your situation to agree on pricing that makes sense.
Flat Fee Billing
I use flat fee billing as much as possible because we both know up front what everything will cost. You don't have to worry about me running up a bill doing nonsense work (I wouldn't do that anyway) and I don't have to worry about breaking the news to you that the work we thought would be $300 is actually $1200. Not fun for anyone involved.
If you want to meet and consult with me, or if you want to get a little more advice than a quick meeting can provide, check out my pricing here.
Otherwise, here are some common transactions...
